Cyber Security - Are you protected? - Freedom Works Creative Hub, Hove

Cyber Security is critical to business and individuals and involves the protection of IT systems and data from cyber threats such as computer-assisted fraud, espionage, sabotage or vandalism.   Find out how to protect yourself and your business by signing up for this free interactive presentation by Alex Douglas of Barclays Bank on Thursday, 4th October to help you to evaluate your risk and to start the process of protecting yourself and your business from Cyber Attack.  Alex will provide an overview of cyber security and what it means for businesses. Alex will talk about the main cyber and fraud threats facing businesses and how to mitigate and prevent these. Alex will then conclude his presentation by making reference to a number of support organisations and resources where you can access further cyber-security help and advice. Every day we learn about large organisations are becoming the target of cyber attack and much as been discussed about cyber attack being used as a weapon between warring nations.  However, it is not just large organisations and governments who need to be aware of the threat and need to put systems and structures in place to guard against the risk.In fact, all internet-facing organisations and individuals using the internet are at risk of attack and the question is not ‘if’ but ‘when’ you or your business will be attacked as most of these attacks are automated and indiscriminate.  Attacks exploit vulnerabilities through viruses, malware, spyware or physical theft and government research has reported that two-thirds of big UK businesses have been hit by a cyber attack in the past and seven out of ten of those attacks could have been prevented.  At the very least, an attack can mean that your IT functionality is disrupted causing loss of business and expense but the threat could be even more costly and could event lead to prosecution.Larger organisations have more recently tended to have a realistic appreciation of the cyber threat they face and have introduced systems to protect themselves but many small to medium-sized companies are unclear about the risk and as many as 45% mistakenly think they are not a viable target.  Digital Economy Minister, Ed Vaizey, said it was “absolutely crucial businesses are secure and can protect data”.
