In the fast-paced world of content creation, finding inspiration for blog writing can sometimes feel like a daunting task. As a business owner or marketer, you understand the importance of consistently producing fresh and engaging content that resonates with your audience. So when the motivation and inspiration is lacking, here are some ways to get the words flowing.

Stay Organised!

Ideas don’t all come at once, so give yourself a dedicated space for lists and ideas, ready for the days they do. You might not use them all, but having the space to throw the random things that pop into your mind means when you are struggling for inspiration for blog writing, you’ll have a back up list ready to go.

Trello is a great platform for list making and project organizing, and can be shared across teams for collaborative projects.

Monday.com is a similar work management platform, customizable to your business needs.

Asana Is another software-as-a-service platform designed for team collaboration and work management. Teams can create projects, assign tasks, set deadlines, and communicate directly within Asana.

Google Keep Is a note-taking app with a to-do list function - A handy tool for personal online list-making, but it doesn’t come with the same collaborative functions as above.

Interviews

Struggling to think of something to say - let someone else do the talking! Interview an industry professional, a new or established colleague or even another local business. A 20-question format of who they are, what they do, and industry-specific Q’s can keep a blog feeling more personal and insightful. Keep it topic-specific or make it fun and informal.

Give yourself space

If you’re struggling for ideas and have total writer's block, staring at a blank screen will only add unnecessary pressure to an already daunting task. Take a moment away from the screen - grab a snack, a cup of tea or a quick stretch of your legs. A quick mindfulness activity like colouring or gentle yoga stretches can help give your mind a break and give you the extra oomph you need to carry on.

No, I’m not kidding. There are HUNDREDS of blogs out there from other businesses, so what are they all writing about? Taking inspiration from them and looking at topic trends coming up in your business area can help spark your own ideas. Look at Twitter, look at Pinterest - what’s the latest, and how could you make it relevant to you?

What’s Happening?

What’s going on locally, nationally, globally or just in the communal kitchen? Check what the calendar is saying, are there any days of interest coming up? Days of the year has a list of all the significant days of the year, from Pride to World Chocolate day, making for some fun blog topics!

Just Start Writing

It doesn’t matter what - it can be total nonsense and not remotely related to your topic, but just start getting words down, and you’ll fall into the writing rhythm to get back to your blog with. There’s a few writing strategies out there to help break the seal.

You can use writing prompts - Random sentences and words to write 100 word stories on.
There’s idea generators online to give you a starting point, and let your imagination take you from there.
Continuous flow writing just starts you writing whatever words pop into your head. Whatever train of thought you have, get those words written. It could lead you to something fun and unexpected for your next blog topic!
Don’t re-read it until you feel like you’ve finished. This is draft 1, it won’t be perfect! The first draft is to just get all the ideas down, so it can be as messy as it needs to be and refined in the second and third iterations.
